Competency 5: Demonstration of Accomplishment

This course provides educators with opportunities to demonstrate the integration of assessment, instruction, intervention, and differentiation across all components of reading. Participants will apply evidence-based practices to develop oral language, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, higher-order thinking, and writing skills for all learners, including English Learners and students with reading difficulties or characteristics of dyslexia. Emphasis is placed on using assessment data to monitor progress, differentiate instruction, provide increasingly complex texts, support self-monitoring and critical reading, and communicate student data with students, families, and educational professionals. This course requires access to students and submission of videos.
